Privacy policy

The short version: your files and clipboard stay on your Mac. dragand only goes online to check your purchase.

Effective [date] · Version 1.0

Draft — needs Alfiyan's review. Not yet approved for publishing, and not legal advice; have it checked if you're unsure.

Summary

  • Your files and your clipboard history never leave your Mac.
  • dragand goes online for one thing only: to check whether you've started the 3-day trial or unlocked the app. It uses RevenueCat for this, with an anonymous ID. That check is its only connection.
  • There's no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. We don't sell or share data.

What stays on your Mac

  • Files you add to the shelf, in the folder you choose (~/Shelf by default). They're ordinary files you can open in Finder.
  • Clipboard history, only if you turn it on. It's stored encrypted inside dragand's sandbox, with the key in your login Keychain, and kept for the period you choose, 7 days by default. Items password managers mark as private are never saved. The names of the apps you copied from are saved with each item, and stay on your Mac too.
  • Settings, such as dragand's position on the edge and the folders you've allowed.

None of this is ever sent anywhere. Turning clipboard history off deletes the saved history. Your shelf folder stays where it is when you remove dragand, because it contains your files.

Purchases and the trial

Purchases are made through the Mac App Store; Apple handles payment and we never see your payment details. To know whether your trial is active or the app is unlocked, dragand uses RevenueCat, a service that checks App Store purchases. RevenueCat receives:

  • an anonymous ID created by dragand on your Mac (not your name, email or Apple Account)
  • your purchase history for dragand: the 3-day trial and the unlock, with dates

That purchase history is the only data dragand collects. It isn't linked to you, it's used only to make the app work (to know whether it's unlocked), and it's never used for tracking or advertising. As with any connection, RevenueCat sees your IP address while it answers. RevenueCat's own privacy policy covers how it stores and keeps this data.

What we receive

From RevenueCat: the anonymous purchase records above. Nothing about your files or clipboard. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your Mac's settings, Apple may also give us anonymous crash and usage statistics through App Store Connect.

If you email us, we use your email only to reply. [confirm retention]

Permissions

  • Folders: dragand only reaches folders you choose in a standard macOS dialog, plus Downloads.
  • Network: used only to check your purchase or trial.
  • Notifications: asked the first time one is useful, for example when clipboard access is turned off or Kept is getting large.
  • Clipboard: only read when clipboard history is on.
  • dragand never asks for Accessibility, Input Monitoring, Screen Recording or Full Disk Access.
